Le Suquet: behind the glitz, the soul of Cannes!
When we talk about Cannes, we immediately think of the glamour of its red carpet and the elegance of its famous Croisette and its luxury boutiques. But Cannes is also Le Suquet, a small picturesque district, with steep streets where it is worth letting oneself get lost. From the top of Mont-Chevalier, Le Suquet (which means summit in Provençal) was once a fortified village which linked the old port to the citadel. Today, this historic neighbourhood is a must for those who want to experience Cannes intensely. Le Suquet overlooks the port and offers a breathtaking view of the bay of Cannes, and in the distance, the islands of Lérins. In its streets, pretty houses with colourful facades meet the bougainvillea and caress the cobbled streets. At the top, pass by the Chapelle Saint-Antoine and admire the parish church of Gothic style Notre-Dame d’Espérance built in the 16th century. Next to this, the emblematic square tower (and its 109 steps) stands on the remains of the medieval fortress of the monks of Lérins which today houses the Museum of explorations of the world where a journey awaits you through primitive art, orientalism and antiques. A little further, Le Suquet des Artistes, housed in the morgue of the old hospital of Cannes is a place of creative expression dedicated to local artists. How can we talk about Suquet without talking about its Forville Market? Praised by locals and great Michelin starred chefs, 3,000m² of stalls offer superb gourmet fresh produce, local specialties and even flowers. And to prolong the pleasure when you return to the hotel, head to our rooftop and panoramic restaurant with a direct view of the Suquet.
